​Personal Hygiene:

  • Soap

  • Any medicines you need to take while at camp (remember that medical forms are required)
  • Fragrant items attract insects, so avoid them

​Clothing:

  • Complete class A uniform! Class A uniform consists of Scout socks, shorts/pants, belt, shirt, slide and neckerchief
  • Class B green collared troop shirt and/or any scout shirts.
  • 2 bathing suits: one for morning showers, and one for swimming.  Be sure to pack your bathing suit and towel on top.
  • Closed toe shoes.  No open toed shoes except "shower shoes" (flip flops to wear in the showers), which are only to be worn in the showers.
  • Raingear
  • Sufficient clothing for 6 days. 
  • Boots or hiking shoes (preferably waterproof)
  • Jacket or sweatshirt
  • Sleeping bag
  • Bed sheet or sleeping bag liner for hot nights
  • Pillow
  • Spare shoes
  • Extra socks
  • Pool towel

​Outdoor Protection:

  • Hat
  • Water Bottle (you NEED to keep hydrated)
  • Sunscreen (Non-Aerosol)
  • Non-aerosol insect repellant

  • Tarp Or Rope (You and your tent mate should make sure to plan who brings a tarp and who brings rope to hang a tarp over your tent.)

  • Snacks (They must be kept in the trailer to keep the Bears out of our tent!)

  • Rug to lay on the floor between the cots (A good idea to keep things from falling between the floorboards)

  • Camp Chair (don't sit in other people's chairs, either bring one or don't sit)
  • Small camp table

DO NOT BRING!

  • Any electronics (ipods, phones, game systems)

  • Long johns if it’s going to be cold.
  • Sleeping clothes for 2 nights (you will be inside a heated cabin)
  • Toiletries (no showers, so just the basics)
  • Preferably hiking boots, plus an extra set of shoes/sneakers
  • Raingear
  • Warm coat, hat, gloves – they will be outside all day on Sat
  • Mess kit – (plate, utensils), refillable bottle for water/bug juice, cup/mug for coffee or hot cocoa
  • Pocket Knife – make sure adults have this until it’s time for working on the whittling chip
  • Compass – only if you already have one, no need to purchase one, the boys can share
  • Sleeping bag or warm blankets
  • Pillow
  • Old blanket or mat to put down on cot
  • Earplugs and sleeping pills (for the adults) might help too!!
  • You might consider bringing a wheel barrow or wagon to help cart your stuff to the camp site.
  • Any daily meds (inhalers, etc)
  • Flashlight

No need to bring food unless you have an extremely picky eater or allergies to certain foods.

The Friday night meeting time is usually around 6:00PM at the municipal building, then caravan to the camp from there. The camps URL is http://www.ockanickon.org and there is a link for a map. The address is also listed and you can mapquest directions.

Try to get as much as possible into a backpack (old school one, no need to purchase a “real” hiking backpack unless you want to – they will need it when they become Boy Scouts). There is a long walk from the parking area to the Lodge.
